What is Sweet Pear?

 

There are many types of pears that are considered Asian pears; among them is the Chinese gong pear, which is the variety focus for this report.

 

 

Origin Of Sweet Pear

 

Sweet Pear with over 2000 years of cultivation history in China is produced in middle-south of Xiaxi province.

China is the world’s top producer and consumer of pears. In 2006, China produced 10,642,287 metric tons (MT), or 65%, of the world’s pears.

  Physical Appearance:  

The shape of the Sweet pears is more of an egg or oblong shape rather than round.

The skin has a yellowish-tan color with some having a brown-russet overtone.

It has thin skin and small pit, delicate fragrance, and is crisp, tasty, refreshing, moderate and sweet.

Best Time to Eat:

 

Sweet pears are considered ready to eat once harvested; they do not have to ripen further before consumption. This characteristic of Sweet pears adds to its appeal to consumers who want fruits that are convenient to eat at the time of purchase and do not over ripen quickly.

 
 
             
 

Storage:

 

Can be stored for 5-7 days when refrigerated at home.
